200 Million Artisans catalyzes self-reliance and innovation within India’s artisan ecosystem by bridging gaps in knowledge, resources and partnerships.

ADVOCACY

200 Million Artisans aims to catalyse self-reliance and responsible innovation within India’s artisan economy by providing access to knowledge, resources, and networks that empower artisan-producers and first-time entrepreneurs focused on sustainable production and consumption.

Up to 200 million people directly or indirectly depend on craft for livelihood. India’s artisan-producers present an untapped ‘Made in India’ goldmine for sustainable development. Crafts aren’t just India’s heritage; they are India’s global competitive advantage. They have the potential to ensure the overall well-being of the country’s youth, its women, and its diverse communities.

In 30 years, the number of Indian artisans has decreased by 30%. COVID-19 will accelerate this decrease further. Most artisan-producers tend to be small and remain unmapped and unrecognized. They also lack the right support — access to relevant technologies, innovation, networks, consumer insights and markets. It is time to reinvest in our creative and cultural capital.

200 Million Artisans is seeking sponsors to accelerate growth for craft-led small businesses by bridging gaps in information, entrepreneurial education, and partnerships.
